If you are planning to move soon, chances are, you are looking around your living space to determine what needs to be packed. It may also be helpful to look for some unconventional packing supplies that can help you save time and money.

The packing portion of your upcoming move is arguably one of the most time-consuming parts of the moving process. Making sure everything is wrapped carefully ensures things are kept protected.

At Smooth Move People, we often have people ask what packing supplies are best and if some unconventional packing supplies work. Here are some unique packing supplies that can be used to keep your items safe and sound during a move.

Towels

Need to move all your bath towels or kitchen towels to your new home? Your daily towels make for great padding for some of your fragile items! As moving supplies, towels can be better than packing paper for wrapped items. Consider using these to protect your drinking glasses, plates, or other delicate items that need an extra cushion when they’re placed in cardboard boxes.

Socks

Another soft item that can be used to pad your more fragile items. Rolled-up socks can be a great way to keep glass or other delicate items from bumping into each other during transportation or lifting.

Bed Sheets and Blankets

Stack your blankets or folded bedsheets into a box and put picture frames or other flat objects in between them for added protection.

Suitcases

You have to take your suitcases to the new house anyway, so why not use them as a method of packing? These are a great alternative to moving boxes and can save you some money when packing household items.

Garbage Bags

Packing a closet full of clothes? You don’t need to fold each item and put it into a box if you don’t want to or don’t have time. Garbage bags are durable enough to stuff with clothes, shoes, or other items from your closet. You can also fit quite a few items in there and they are inexpensive.

However, be sure not to overfill the bag. When you are lifting, they can tear, and the last thing you want are clothes all over a dirty lawn or driveway.

Packing is one of the most important parts of moving and ensuring you have the right material is important. Bubble wrap, packing peanuts, recycling paper, and other decidedly non-alternative packing supplies still do the trip. But many of our suggestions make for cost-conscious and eco-friendly packaging materials.

We can answer your questions on what packing material or packing tape is best. Then we can get your move scheduled, so you can ensure an easy transition into your new home or apartment.
