Moving is one of the biggest and arguably one of the most stressful things people go through. There is so much to coordinate: packing, filling out paperwork to ensure all utilities are transferred over, and making sure you have help to move all of your items on moving day.  But what about the things you don’t think about when you think about moving?

Sometimes, it is easy to focus on all of the major things and neglect some of the smaller details that ensure a smooth move. When it comes to moving, being organized is key.

So, well ahead of moving day, start a checklist of things you will need for those first few days in your new home. Add things to it as you think of them to ensure you have everything covered.

Here are some things to consider adding to your list to make the moving process smoother. You might also consider a garage sale to get rid of items beforehand that you know you won’t need in your new home. Perhaps friends and family members can use these items. They’ll save money thanks to your donation, and you and your moving company will have less to move!

Medicine

Moving might cause a headache or aches and pains, so be sure to pack some pain medication to keep on hand. Don’t forget to include any other daily medicine and prescriptions and vitamins that you are required to take by your doctor to ensure you don’t miss any doses. Make sure to double check that you have what you need in your packing materials, especially if you’re moving long distance.

Cleaning supplies

There is no way around it: moving is messy. Toilet cleaner, disinfecting wipes, hand sanitizer, and all-purpose cleaner are some good essentials to pack and bring to your new space ahead of time. That way, if any accidents or spills happen at the time of the move, you will be able to clean them up right away.

Bills

Bring any bills that need to be paid and mailed during your move. You may not have your internet connection set up right away to pay online, so be sure you pack your bills, a few extra stamps, and a few checks to mail your bills if needed.

Chargers

We rely on our phones, laptops, and tablets to stay connected to the world around us. Be sure to pack batteries and chargers on moving day or before it so you can stay charged and connected wherever you’re at.
