Let’s talk about how to pack a TV for moving.
When it comes to moving, there are some household items that require a little extra TLC during the packing process, and a television is definitely one of them.
These devices are heavy, fragile, and often expensive. It’s important to take the proper steps to ensure that they arrive at your new home in one piece.
Unfortunately, simply piling blankets or bubble wrap around your television isn’t enough to keep it safe during the move. Instead, you’ll probably want to hire a moving company that uses special tools and techniques to get the job done right.
Whether you’re hiring professional movers or taking on the task yourself, make sure to give your TV the attention it deserves to help protect it during transportation.
Packing a TV for Moving
If you’ve moved an expensive television before, chances are you used a moving blanket to wrap the TV. Maybe you kept the box and shipping foam it came with in preparation for a move you knew you would soon make. Or maybe you put the TV where it is on the TV stand many years ago, cleaned it with a microfiber cloth as needed, and haven’t thought about moving it since.
In any case, as you are getting ready to move, you will come across some household items that require a little more attention in the packing process. Televisions are some of those types of items. And since they’re heavy, fragile, expensive, and won’t fit in a typical moving box, you will want to be sure you have the proper tools and techniques to get them packed properly so that they are protected at least as well as they were in that original TV box.
Better yet, you should work with a moving company that already knows how to pack a TV for moving!
Moving companies take pains to protect your items both before, during, and after they are loaded onto the moving truck. Especially with today’s flat-screen TV models costing many hundreds if not thousands of dollars, it’s important to make sure that we all know and understand how to pack a TV for moving.
Here are some packing tips related to flat-screen TVs as well as older models. If you have any questions, contact Smooth Move People.
TIP #1: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT SUPPLIES
Ensure that you have the right size cardboard boxes before you dismantle your electronics. Measure your television to ensure the box will fit. If you can use the original box that the item came in, then packing it should be easy.
TIP #2: WRAP IT WELL
Fill the bottom portion of the box with bubble wrap or thick packing paper. This will serve as extra padding. Then, place the bubble wrap over the whole screen and ensure that it’s secured to the front. Then shrink-wrap the entire thing and wrap blankets around the screens.
All empty spaces should be filled with proper packing material. This helps make sure the screen doesn’t shift around when it is lifted and moved.
TIP #3: LABEL
Make sure you indicate on the outside of the box what the item is. Then, write “FRAGILE” on the outside in several places. This will ensure that movers will take extra precautions when lifting and setting it down.
