Lake Oswego is one of the best upscale suburbs of Portland with a one-of-a-kind small- town feel. It was originally founded in 1847 by Albert Alonzo Durham as the town of Oswego, where he built the first sawmill on Sucker Creek, now known as Oswego Creek.
This was the town’s first industry and it was known as the hub of Oregon’s brief iron industry in the late 19th century. In 1910, it was incorporated, and the Southern Pacific Railroad allowed for service between Portland and Oswego. In 1960, the city was named Lake Oswego when it annexed part of Lake Grove.
Oswego Lake is a lake in the city, which was originally called Waluga (wild swan), where boaters can enjoy the water and then exit and walk to nearby businesses in the area. In 2016, the population was estimated to be about 39,000 and since then it has continued to grow.
